February 16th, 2022 - Washington, DC: In 2019, the Children's Chorus of Washington (CCW) commissioned famed composer Dominick DiOrio to commemorate our 25th anniversary by creating the Dream A New World Trilogy. At long last, we are thrilled to announce CCW will debut this work at the Atlas INTERSECTIONS Festival 2022 on March 6th at 5pm.
Featuring three performing ensembles, this work connects
dreaming, newness, and openness, and is grounded in hope and joy. We celebrate the intersections within DC's rich cultural tapestry with the words of African-American DC-based poets
Elizabeth Alexander and Eloise Greenfield, and dance choreography by
Ashanté Green, Creative Director of the Dance Institute of Washington (DIW), performed by DIW students.
In 2021, CCW debuted the first movement,
"Daydreamers," during our 25th-anniversary virtual gala. Now, we are thrilled to share the complete composition, including the remaining movements, "To Catch a Fish" and “Praise Song for the Day," during what promises to be an inspirational and reflective performance.
DIW will open this exciting program with its moving presentation of "Beauty," choreographed by Ashanté Green and performed by DIW students.
Both CCW and DIW’s missions aim to provide quality educational experiences through the arts. Performing partnerships like this one strengthen this commitment. Providing professional performing opportunities to young people not only builds their skills as artists, they boost self-esteem and confidence as well.
CCW’s Artistic Director Margaret Nomura Clark
shared the following about this debut:
“Of all of the performances I’ve been a part of during my time with the Chorus, this one feels the most special. Atlas’s INTERSECTIONS 2022 Festival connects DC’s creative community. My students and the Dance Institute of Washington’s students have the opportunity to share their talent. Our composer, Dominick DiOrio, has created a truly inspirational work; I can only imagine how moved I will be when it debuts on March 6th.”
