Accountability on the Path to Truth, Justice, and Peace

Dear CCW Community,

As the verdict was read on Wednesday we were reminded of the statement we made last summer in response to Mr. Floyd's murder. We recognize that we all continue to experience grief, fear, anxiety, pain, anger, and exhaustion as the pandemic rages on, and the calls for racial justice echo louder than ever.

Yet, in the wake of this affirming verdict and the increasing accessibility of multiple Covid-19 vaccines, we approach the end of this very unusual season with hope. This year has shown us that heroes are all around us, and celebrations shouldn't be reserved only for special occasions. We can hold both sadness and fear alongside joy and hope. Pain is plentiful, but love, too, is abundant.

Amanda Gorman's poetry perfectly describes this, its musicality resonates: We are buoyed by the warmth and stability of this community as we have faced each challenge this past year has presented, and emerged "bruised but whole," doing our part to create a more perfect union in "a nation that isn't broken, but simply unfinished."

Thank you for being with us as we continue to seek truth, justice, and peace for all.
