EXPAND OUR REACH
Core to our organization is the belief that access to high quality singing opportunities should be accessible to any young person who wants them, irrespective of geography or socio-economic position.
In 2021, CCW raised money for a scholarship fund, named for our founder, Joan Gregoryk, to support tuition costs for low-income students. Each year we distribute over $50,000 in tuition, transportation, touring, and other ancillary costs related to participating in our program.
With a vision to overcome geographic access barriers, in April 2024 we launched the Expand Our Reach initiative, planning for citywide programming across multiple campuses, beginning with Southwest DC in the 2024-25 season.
CCW has 2 campuses, one in Northwest DC and one in Southwest DC.
Our choristers represent all 8 Wards of DC as well as Maryland and Virginia.
CCW is planning on further expanding into Northeast and Southeast DC in the near future.
Children's Chorus of Washington proudly partners with nearby Amidon-Bowen Public Elementary School to foster musical talent and inclusivity among young students. We facilitate this partnership by providing a ‘walking bus’, picking up students directly from their school and escorting them to our rehearsal site, which is just a five-minute walk away.
To further enhance accessibility, we conduct in-school auditions, ensuring that every interested child has the opportunity to participate without facing logistical barriers. Additionally, we collaborate closely with school administration and music educators, reinforcing our commitment to creating a supportive and enriching environment for all participants.
